StillMouse steadies your pointer on your Mac. It's built to send as little as it can, and nothing about how you move unless you ask.
On your Mac
- StillMouse needs Accessibility permission to steady the pointer and guard your clicks. It reads pointer movement and clicks as they happen and keeps none of them. It never records the screen or what you type.
- The "Tuned to your hand" test keeps its recording in memory while it runs and deletes it when you leave the page. Only the result's numbers are saved, on your Mac.
- Your settings stay on your Mac.
Your license
To keep a license on one Mac at a time, our server (api.stillmouse.com) stores, for each license:
- a code made from your Mac's hardware id, hashed so the id itself can't be read back;
- the Mac's name, so you can tell your Macs apart when you move the license;
- the dates it was activated and last checked, and the StillMouse version;
- the country each check came from, as our host Cloudflare reports it.
It doesn't store your email address, your license key or your IP address. When you sign in to move a license, the six-digit code we email you is stored only as a hash, and only until it expires.
Buying
Payments go through Stripe, who keep your card details; we never see them. Stripe tells our server the email address you bought with, once, so we can send your license key by email. Email is sent through Resend.
Explanations by AI
If you press "Explain with AI" after the test, StillMouse sends the result's numbers (about fifteen of them, such as how far the pointer moved around a dot), the language, and a code showing your Mac has a license, to our server. Our server passes only the numbers and the language to Anthropic, whose AI, Claude, writes the explanation. Your recording, your name, your email and your Mac's code are never sent to Anthropic. StillMouse shows you exactly what is sent before you press the button. Nothing is sent if you don't.
Claude's answer also holds a suggested pointer setting: a few numbers for the smoothing. StillMouse keeps it on your Mac with the explanation and uses it only if you press "Try it".
To keep the explanations fair, each buyer can ask for 3 a day and 30 in all, however many times they buy. To count them, our server keeps a one-way code made from the email address you bought with (a salted hash), not the address itself. The code is never sent to Anthropic.
Our server counts how many explanations each license has asked for, to keep within the daily limit.
Updates
Once a day StillMouse asks updates.stillmouse.com whether there's a newer version. The request carries only the StillMouse and macOS versions. You can turn this off on the Help page.
Feedback
What you write on the Feedback page is emailed to us and isn't stored on our server.
Counting
To know roughly how many people visit this website, download StillMouse and use it, our server keeps daily totals: page views, with the site that linked here and the country; downloads, with the country; clicks on Buy; and update checks, with the StillMouse and macOS versions. Each is counted once a day from a salted hash that changes every day and is deleted within two days. None of it can be turned back into a Mac or a person, and your IP address isn't kept.
If a link brought you here with a tag (such as ?ref=), or another site did, this website keeps that tag in your browser for 30 days and adds it to its Download and Buy links, so we can tell which places bring people who buy. A copy of StillMouse downloaded that way reads the tag once, from the record macOS keeps of the app's own download, keeps it on your Mac and adds it only to the Buy link it opens. StillMouse counts nothing about how you use it.
Who handles what
- Axleno LLC makes StillMouse and runs its server.
- Cloudflare hosts the server and this website.
- Stripe handles payments. Resend sends email. Anthropic writes explanations when you ask for one.
Questions or deletion
Write to ismail@axleno.com. We'll tell you what we hold for your license, and delete it if you ask.
